Missed Out 3 Years Tax Credits

Hello All,

I know this is a bit late but i was told by HMRC a while back that i should have queried it back then even though i never understood tax credits and how it worked :(. Back in 2003 when it was introduced i filled in the relevant forms and sent them in. I never received anything back and just assumed that i was not entitled to anything however it later transpired that they never received my forms in the first place. Because of this they never sent me renewal packs for the following 2 years so in all i missed out on 3 years payments altogether . I made enquiries in 2006 and was sent forms which i filled in, sent back and have been receiving payments ever since. What i want to clarify is should they have sent me the forms for 2004/5 and 2005/6 regardless of wether they received my form or not during the first year tax credits were introduced.

thank you
Ratmin

Well if they didnt receive your form back and you didnt chase it they probably assumed you didnt want to apply or were not entitled.

Surely you understand they have more to do that chase up people who havent made a claim,
Pay off all my debts before Christmas 2015 #165.

the onus is on YOU to make sure you have claimed, not on them to find out if youre entitled.

For the first year yes i agree but after that shouldnt the forms be sent out automatically after that.

No, renewal forms are only sent out if you have a current claim with them. As they did not receive your paperwork and you did not have a current claim with them you would not have been sent renewals.

Simply no. They do not send out forms to every household.
