Call me old fashioned but I still tend to use video recorders rather dvd recorders and my current video recorder is broken, Where is the best place to buy a good and cheap video recorder?

Do places even still sell them?

Your best bet might be eBay! :)

Why don't you look on Freecycle?

Does anyone know of a cheap one that does VideoPlus with 2 scarts? My mum needs one. She is 78 and can't set up a recording without VideoPlus. I have tried to show her. All the cheap videos do not have VideoPlus. A combined VCR and DVD player would be OK. Any ideas? Thanks.

I bought my last one off eBay about 4 years ago - cost about £15 and has been brilliant. It is a Sharp stereo one with 2 scarts. We also have had a Samsung mono Videoplus (only one scart) for 6+ years with no problem. Our only disastrous one was a Matsui.

    Link to VCRs on eBay:

As I am sure you know!, you can search from there in the descriptions for the features you want and also for ones situated within pick-up distance if you don't want to pay postage.

Other places to look would be for ones advertised locally on online classified sites like adtrader.co.uk and gumtree.co.uk.

Have you thought about a PVR, similar to Sky+, recording onto a hard drive so no tape and the epg (prog guide) is used to set the recording times easier than Videoplus as no magazine or newspaper needed. Can be got for less than a ton.
