Can anyone recommend anywhere please?
We'll be with our toddler and would like somewhere within walking distance to shopping/interesting sites etc.
Thank you

I'd recommend doing a search on venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
Plus for 4% off, use code: BK5HX8W
I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere, as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.
Hope that helps0 -
We Stayed at The Cartwright on Sutter St,very good position for shops and anything else.check out Trip Adviser it gets good reviews,we thought it was wonderfull, try the wine tasting 5-6 in the evening.0

I went a few years ago with my mum and dad when I was 14. We stayed at Holiday Inn Golden Gateway... its an excellent location for the shopping areas and Holiday Inn is a family orientated chain of hotels
Have fun, and make sure you got to the end of Pier 49 to look at the seals!!0 -
We stayed at the Handelry Hotel, just over from Union Sq. excellent location close to all restaurants, shopping, famous cable cars for the pier, Chinese 1/4,booked with B.A and had a great price, allthought the rooms were quite small as i think most are in the city, they were very nicely fitted out.My mind tends to wander............If found please return;)

we went there in April for 2 nights (fab - would go ahead like a shot) and stayed in a hotel my brother in law recommended called 'The Royal Pacific Motor Hotel' - I think the bill was about $500 for 2 rooms for 2 nights and the rooms were HUGE. It was right smack in the middle of Chinatown and easy to walk everywhere. It wasn't the most up to date hotel in terms of decor (a bit 70s) but the rooms were very clean and comfortable. We also had a big balcony which we shared with the room next door which was my brother in law's. The great thing was that it had it's own car park, which is pretty rare in SF I believe. There were snacks and tea and coffee making facilities plus TV etc. It's worth a look anyway.0

if you are looking for somewhere cheap I would strongly recommend Monarch hotel, it's 10 minutes walk from union square and the rooms are small but comfortable.
i stayed there in october and loved it!:santa2:0 -
For dirt cheap I've just booked at The Mosser (4th Street). Cost is £28 the night, but using a shared bathroom (which I don't think I'm too fussed about). I'm only there three nights though, I will report back!

It is a bit too much of a walk to Union Square with a toddler from this hotel, otherwise it is great value for money, I'd pick some thing closer to Union Square, good deals can be had at the Chancellor.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Check out https://www.tripadvisor.org for advice and ratings on hotels and facilities from actual travellers.
We've always stayed in the Fisherman's Wharf area which is popular with many tourists. The Van Ness/Polk area has reasonably priced hotels and we have had no problem walking around there even after dark. Also San Francisco has one of the best and most affordable public transport (bus, tram and cable car) systems in the US. That can give more options where you choose a hotel if you use that to get around. There are different travel passes which can give especially good value. Details are at http://www.sfmuni.com/cms/mms/fares/fareinfo.htm#basic
A good MSE activity is a visit to the SF Zoo on the first Wednesday of the month (when entry is free) travelling on the high speed tram to get there (no additional charge if you have a travel pass).
Have a great trip.Nice to save.0 -
We have stopped in San Francisco twice and would stop at the Holiday Inn Express, Fishermans Wharf which is modern well fitted out and is great.:T
Reasonable rates, good buffet breakfast and very near Cable car stop and Pier 39 for shopping and ferries.
We just love riding the cable cars up into the city centre.
Have a good one!:beer:0
