Just a daytime event?

I have found the most gorgeous venue to have my civil ceromony 7 wedding breakfast in. Its an old church building converted into a high class restaurant. The building is absolutely beautiful so I wouldnt need to decorate with table covers or chair covers & sashes. A few flowers would do.

Question is, as its a restaurant if I wanted the whole venue day & evening I would have to do a minimum spend of £7k! But If I just have the civil ceromony & wedding breakfast for a daytime event finishing around 5pm, It will cost about £1300.

But I wobder if I have a daytime event, after we get married..I will be like...Oh thats it then..we;re married..whats on the tv lol!

What do ppl think? Is it strange just to have a daytime event?

  • Would it be possible to go somewhere afterwards such as hire out a function room with a bar and some music? Then you can have a full day- I know there are a few places round where I live where you would be able to do that.

we only had a daytime event - civil ceremony followed by church blessing (complicated - won't bore you with details) and then a reception at a local restaurant. we had 56 people and no-one thought it odd that we didn't have an evening reception - we went off on honeymoon and they either stayed drinking in the bar or Parent in law had invited them all back to their place. Its not essential to ave an evening do just cos everyone ls does !
  • I'm thinking of doing a daytime only event and then chilling out in the evening with close friends and family only. It's a nice way of remaxing after the day.

Thats reassuring to know. I think I worry too much sometimes on the expectations of others! I was thinking that I could book a nice hotel for the night for Hubby to be & me that evening. We prob will go on our honeymoon a little while after our wedding! xx

We did that. Our register office ceremony was 4pm, family meal at favourite restaurant, then it was supposed to be home time. As it turned out, everyone came back to the pub next to our house and we all stayed til the early ours. Fab day.

Mine was daytime too, started at 1pm and finished 6pm. We hired a band, had speeches etc. It also means guests wont have to fork out for a hotel so cheaper for them too

I get married this month and we are daytime only. Registery office then lunch for 39.

We are on a budget and we just want a quiet, simple wedding so we decided against a full day.

If people want a night time they can stay in town drinking!

Its hard too but you shouldny worry about what others think xx

It might be nice, if there are guests from out of town, to point them in the direction of somewhere nice to spend the evening, or book a small space for them to carry on the party. I've been to weddings that only had the daytime events too, and we always ended up carrying on the party, with or without the couple!
