I seem to have a visitor

Found big boy cat looking very wide eyed with practically every hair on his body on end.

Went do a bit of investigating and ....... in the dog kennel (cats outside safe/warm/dry place in case they get stuck outside when I'm not in), tucked up on the nice warm bed with fleecy blanket is a HUGE black & white splodgy cat!

Luckily wee girl cat doesn't appear to have noticed it as she goes NUTS at other cats (hates them).

Have managed to get them both in (house now even hotter as have had to close back door & no window in lounge):(.

Never seen it before (tend to know most of the dogs/cats in the street thanks to walking the dog) but several nearby streets that it may have wandered over from.

Hoping there's not an owner going frantic somewhere ...... from what I can see it looks quite plump and healthy so don't think it's a stray and hope it's off home by the morning or I'll have a huge problem!

Ooh dear - good luck, I hope s/he has gone by tomorrow, probably just fancied a snooze in a different place for a change ;)

I am thinking of building (correction: getting husband to build lol) a cat adventure playground at the side of our house. We have a bit of land to the side that is too small to do anything with and is not really part of the garden, so it is just wasted, and has been for the 14 years we've lived here. So I was thinking of getting things like logs, ropes, little hidey-holes etc and making a little play centre. Unfortunately, with 3 cats next door, I don't think it will be the sole domain of our 3 (or 5 when we get our new kittens). :)

Sounds a bit like when I spy someone else's dinner in a restaurant and it always looks better than my own! Cat obviously thought your cats sleeping place was more comfy than its own bed!

I love the idea of a cat playground, if I had the space and innovation to do something like that. But in the meantime my two will just have to put up with treating my entire house and belongings as their personal playground!
:wave:A highly active brain needs feeding often :D
  • Thanks Friday, s/he is still there! :(

It's looking quite comfy and didn't hiss or try to get away, but wouldn't come out so I've just left it be - raining now so I don't think it'll be moving until it stops.

I really hope it goes home by the morning - I had a wander around when I took the dog out and no-one that was out recognised its, also wandered over to the next street and didn't come across any frantic owners out pacing the streets.

Not sure what I'll do if it's not as won't be able to get my 2 out as really don't want a cat fight before work. It was a cat fight in my garden that both mine got involved/hurt in that started the dominance war in my house the last time so keen to avoid at all costs.

I honestly don't think I could cope with another 4 months of separation, one living upstairs/one down, 2 sets of litter trays/food, one in/one out and having to keep the back door shut/keep the poor dog out of the lounge again:eek: !

At the same time, I did feel a bit sorry for it - if it's not gone by the morning ... any ideas? (Away to work pretty early so not really much chance to do a lot).

The adventure playground sounds fab!:D I'm sure it'll be well used and enjoyed by all the neighbourhood cats!

Could you send your DH over when he's finished to build one for my lot!;)

I think there is a high probability s/he will have gone by morning - hunger will probably drive them home. But if not, then I would certainly check before letting your cats out in the morning. If s/he is still there, is it feasible for you to keep your cats in all day? It sounds like it would be too early in the day to take the newbie cat to the vet to see if s/he is microchipped, but if s/he is still there when you get home, could you do so then? If that is not successful, then I think the only thing left would be to kock on doors/put flyers through etc, but I am sure it won't come to that. ;)

The problem is to prevent him/her from coming back again.... S/he needs to feel like it is not a good place to be, but I'm not sure how you could achieve that without making it a bad place to be for your own cats

Yeah, I can send DH up north to build your cat palace - just let me know when you want him :rotfl:
  • Yay, wee cat seems to have gone home!:j
    Phew!!!!

I do hope it doesn't come back and, as Friday suggests, decides that this is a nice place to hang out! I love all cats but unfortunately my wee one doesn't!

  • I was wondering whether your squatter had remembered where he lived :)

I think my boy is currently trespassing in the overgrown garden across the road. It's nice and cool and junglified over there. And only the professor's Silver Boy to deal with next door.

At least, that is if he hasn't gone to visit Pirate Cat's mum three doors down over the back.

Yes. That's right. Pirate Cat. Ginger, very old, wears a neckscarf collar and only has one eye. His owner obviously has the same sort of sense of humour as I do.

Albeit mine's a bit stretched at the moment, as I have just euthanised one of the fish as it wasn't responding to treatment for dropsy and was suffering :(
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

  • Chuckling at "pirate cat" - how lovely that the owner's taken it on board so well!:D

Sorry about your fish - I had to admit defeat with one of mine a couple of weeks ago and it's awful.

Now left with just one so def not very MSE running a big tank with filters and air stones etc for just the one!

If you want to scare him away should he return, try using plain old water in a spray bottle and shouting - he will be scared off but unhurt. If you spray/shout every time he comes round, he will realise that it isn't a nice place to be, as he could be woken by a spray and noise at any point!

I disagree, when my mum got her two kitties last year, mr big kitty from a couple of houses down decided he liked the look of them, the house, and their food and spent most of his time hunting and scaring them and squeezing his HUGE head and over-fed belly through the cat flap, eating their food, spraying EVERYWHERE round the house he could find.. He was a beautiful big soft Tom cat, but a big huge pain-in-the-butt too, she had to lock her cats in every night so he couldn't come in and wee everywhere. Water spray and a raised voice didn't do alot, the only way he could be stopped was the neighbours moving out! (not because of the cat though!)
