Obviously Beancounter if the RBS branch you are close to is one based in England that would be an issue given the sale of those to Santander!0 -
Another satisfied Natwest user here - I have a basic account with them and it allows me to transfer monies into ISAs etc. with Halifax pretty much instantly.
Generally very pleased with their service too, although they are forever trying to sell me stuff as I don't make them much money through fees/interest etc.Obviously Beancounter if the RBS branch you are close to is one based in England that would be an issue given the sale of those to Santander!
I could be wrong, but think that Santander are also picking up some Natwest branches in Scotland.... might be time to switch!0 -

Cheers, I am in Scotland so pretty safe to assume it won't go near the Spanish.:D0 -
Santander are buying the Natwest branches in Scotland so avoid them like the plague.0

Another plus for Natwest is that their eSavings is one of the few savings accounts which offer Faster Payments (others are Tesco and M&S). Unfortunately it only pays 1% gross, but it can still be useful as somewhere to push off small amounts of surplus from the current a/c to earn a bit till you need it again -- RBS's equivalent is the Direct Saver, but as I'm not with them I can't say if it offers FPs too (but assume it would, being part of the same group).
Or there's Lloyds TSB current a/c + Vantage if you can take advantage of it -- you need to cycle £1000 monthly through the account (and stay in credit) to get the tiered interest.

I'd say Halifax is ok. HSBC's faster payments are the best I've used. But now you need to log in with your secure key everytime for internet banking, but don't need it to make transfers. I use my HSBC for getting paid into and then transferring that to my other accounts. It's easy to use0
