Looking for bank account that clears pay transfers next day

I'm currently banking with santander (BOO HISS) and for some reason my monthly pay transfer is taking 5 days to clear or even show up every month, but all 19 colleages from work have funds cleared from midnight the next day and none bank with SANTANDER. Santander say its my work not them! mmmm. So i'm not looking for a great interest rate or decent overdraught or even cashback on an account, i just want a prompt efficient service, can anyone point me in right direction? first direct is not an option!

First of all how does your employer pay you?
    Where does the employer bank?

The easiest way I would suggest is to open a bank account at the same bank.

I suspect most banks will be quicker than santander. ask your colleagues who they bank with and whether they're happy with their account.

Or open an account with your employers bank and you might even get your salary quicker!

Lloyds TSB clear the same day, i.e. employer pays me on the 15th, funds are available to withdraw on the same day.

So does it take 5 days to show up? Or 5 days to clear?

Electronic payments are always available immediately they show, with Santander same as any other bank. Are they giving you a cheque to pay in?

You are lucky then some employees I know get paid by cheque - some weeks they get immediate access to the funds other weeks the cheque has to go through the clearing cycle and they have to wait.
If you get paid by BACS you should be ok.
