Free fun day ideas in the Midlands?

Was going to go to alton towers this week but didnt realise its FORTY pounds each in?! even with BOGOF, with petrol, food etc its just not worth it!

Does anyone know any good ideas/cheap/free places to go in the midlands?

We're openminded!

£40.80 only if you pay on the day. Reduced to £20.40 with a BOGOF deal. Or for a family of 4 prebuying online it's £25.44 each. You can also plan ahead and use vouchers to get it cheaper. It's expensive but it's a good fun day out. Get in early and stay late to make the most of it.

For free things....hmmmm...it depends on what you like. I would rather walk around Carsington Water. It's near Alton. Or Blithfield Reservoir...but that's me.

I'll think of things in a bit most things cost...i normally wait until the Heritage Open Day weekend and go mad going to all the places that cost a mint but for the one weekend are free. 8th to 11th September this year http://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

    - it depends on how old your kids are and what you want to do...

near to Alton towers is the Peak District - lots of trails for family bike rides....(you can hire bikes if you can't bring your own)

    - lots of places have adventure playgrounds - eg carsington water (which also has a good bike ride around it)

    - lots of public swimming baths have wave pools, flumes, rapids etc..

    - the Wildlife Trust put on lots of family days and events which are often free or cheap..

walking or bike riding, in the Peaks - meal in a pub,(or bbq in a field) camping in a tent - thats a cheap and romantic weekend away for you...

if you dont have kids it does not mean you will not enjoy it..

I think KP Hula hoops had some BOGOF thingies printed on the packet......some Fox's party rings mini bags did have last month. Take a look round the supermarket......Also, have you looked in the local tourist info/library? They sometimes have vouchers you can use in their leaflets.

Edit: For Alton Towers *doh me*

Its a bit late now but Tesco Clubcard vouchers can be used for Alton Towers. Thats what we use when we go because even with a BOGOF its still an expensive day out for 6 people.
