Laptop DVD Writer not working

I have a toshiba A60-692 and it seems that the DVD drive will not complete writing DVD files to the media. It will start writing and within five minutes it will open the DVD drive but when you look at the DVD there is very little information witten to it. It used to work ok before. Also I can burn things to a CD without any problems. anyone have any ideas?

What do you use for burning Nero? or something else, I used to have a similar problem but dropping the write speed to 1x I now have lovely DVDs with no errors but they do ofcourse take longer to do.

have you tried burning with different media ? if its not still under warranty try updating the firmware on the drive.
  • Have you tried burning at a lower speed? My laptop doesn't burn at the top speed on some cheaper media than I have used in the past - took me ages to work it out why it was failing, slowed down the write and it was fine.

  • i also have that problem with my new laptop - Advent 7105p. Been like that since i bought it. It had a prog written in and that doesnt work. Have also tried nero and another prog but to no avail. I wondered if perhaps i was using the wrong discs. (+ or -) but i cant find which i should be using. Nothing on the manual and no reply from PC World.

It goes through the writing process but right at the end it then says that it has been unable to complete

  • DVD-R are the most common, if you dont know if it will do + or -RW or +RW etc. DVD-R should definately work.

As mentioned, certain brands of disk dont work with certain burners, tho more modern writers are a lot better.

A lot of companies sell packs of half dozen different dvd disks so you can try each out to find one that your burner does like.

You need to run Belarac scanner to make sure what your drive number is.
