Distraught with Thomson Holidays :(

We booked our holiday nearly a year in advance to get a good deal. Thomson sent us an email today, to say that the flight to our destination - Marsa Alam - has been cancelled in November.
As we live in the channel islands, we have to book flights to the UK and a hotel overnight when we go on holiday, so we're now already £300 down.
I was on hold for 54 minutes to the Thomson number (it doesn't say anywhere in the email that it calls to that number are charged at 5p per minute), and on the phone, in total, for an hour and 5 minutes.
They can't offer us any other flight on the same day, to Marsa, so our holidays booked at work may have to be changed too (this will cause more problems, as it's difficult for OH to get holidays booked).
I'm beside myself with frustration and really upset, as we save really hard all year to go on holiday and go without a lot of other things, just so we can get away and have a break. We spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to find the cheapest holidays as we have to pay for almost another holiday just to get to the UK! The girl on the phone just said that she understood that I was upset, there was nothing they could do and that she apologised on behalf of the company.
I don't think that there's anything that I can do, except get our money back and try and book somewhere else

Go by the least frustrating road.
Get your money back and start again.
And write separately to Thompsons head office and complain.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Which UK airport are the flights from the Channel Islands to?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

How awful for you 8(0

There are plenty of flights from Gatwick, perhaps have a look at the best alternative, if you got a refund, that fits in with your JER-LGW flights already booked.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

We're going to have a look at that, thank you.
I'm so cross as we took the advice of booking early to get the best deals and Thomson have completely dropped on us from a great height.
Apparently they have put up the costs of lots of holidays today and they aren't flying to Marsa at all when we were going.0 -
:-( as others have said get your money back, are you not covered by your travel insurance for this?0

Should you not be given any compensation? Our flights were changed by Thomas Cook from a Monday to a Tuesday and we were given £25.00 each as a good will gesture to change or we could've had a full refund to cancel. Not much I know but it was something - we then had to booked overnight accommodation. Have you asked or have they mentioned?0

Sadly, no our travel insurance doesn't cover this cancellation, however, ironically, neither does the one that Thomson sell with their holidays ...0 -
Sorry to hear that, I think your best bet is to take the refund and decide on somewhere else to go to from gatwick that day seen as you already have the expense of flights and hotel and the holiday dates booked.
Good luck and i hope you find something else.0
