People walking their dogs when hot

On hot days we usually wait until the evenings, but have taken them for walks in the afternoon when it is warm, although shorter walks. To be honest I think my dogs prefer the warm weather to our winter weather. When it was in the minuses they really didn't want to go out and given the choice, they would probably take the hot weather over the freezing cold!0

my staffie is like this, when there is snow on the ground she has to be pushed out of the back door then tries to sneak round the edge of the patio (where the snow is shallower) and tiptoes straight in when shes done her stuff.:rotfl:
in the sun she's straight out in the middle of the lawn normally on her back. when on walks she doesn't seem to act any different to when its cooler at all. (although most of her walk is through 'the woods'. our back door is open all day and she can come in and out as she likes, shes out most of the day.0 -
I've found for mine that in the excessive heat that we've had lately it is better not to take them out to walk but let them exercise more in the garden.
Although I do have access to a private field where I will often walk them, I have a 2,500sq feet back garden and as a result I can let them run around in the garden and then they have the choice of calling it quits by going back inside, having a drink and going for a snooze on the sofa. This way I can keep them hydrated whilst also catering to their near-obsessive desire to run around like mad bats chasing after all and sundry and being whippets they do get more benefit from sprinting exercise than walking exercise anyway.0 -

One of my girls think snow is absolutely fantastic.
It was her first experience of snow last winter and she loved it... she was rolling around in it, digging it up and at one point took a poo and started barking excitedly at it as it sunk into the snow.
Bloody freak of a dog...0 -
In this weather i always carry water & a collapsible bowl for my 2 Russell's & they walk to the water trough's by themselves now & drink from them when we are out in the fields. As i work shifts i have to walk at random times but they get 2hrs of walks a day rain or shine.Never had any trouble with heat i just make sure they keep their fluids right up.

That'll be the nose and front paws reluctantly out of the door and into the snow while the back end (still in the porch if you're really lucky) squats and wees on your feet - I know it well. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
In hot weather I tend to take pooch somewhere with a river, or to the reservoir - she is always straight into the water like a shot!
In cold weather I mostly stay away from rivers and the like as she is stoopid & still dives straight in, and refuses to get out despite the fact she is stood there shivering
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Remember when the Lab and Collie first encountered snow- he's quite timid, and quickly scooted back inside- was very happy to watch it fall though from the safety of the door. Lab took exception to the snow invasion and decided it must be stamped out at all costs, barking furiously at the sky while trying to eat it- was very funny to watch.
Left both of them in the garden this morning when I left for work- it's quite warm, with shaded patches. In an hour, Lab's sunbeam will come around the corner and she'll doze in it, while Collie catches the breeze coming around the corner (ruddy stange dog- breeze going through his fur results in him doing a narf-narf-narf groany sound the entire time!)0 -
It's best when they do the cat-thing of disapproving of the weather outside, so going to check if it's different at the back door to the front doo.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
