Hotpoint Quote for Repair of Fridge Freezer

Options
Hi,

I've got a problem with my 5 and half year old Hotpoint Fridge Freezer.
The 'frost free' part seems to be a complete iceblock. Frost is now appearing all down the back of the freezer compartment.
The red warning light of 'Freezer at High Temp' is more or less on most of the time.

Icecreams aren't freezing. A freezer thermometer says it's freezing not frozen...

Ice has appeared behind the vegetable drawers of the fridge ...

Basically we don't have a warranty on the goods. I called Hotpoint, they said they would come out for £124.99 to repair or fix the problem.
It would be guaranteed for 3 months.

If it's beyond repair they would offer me a discount and give me back £50.

Other option is to pay £14.99 per month for a year (total £179.88), and that would give me 12 months warranty and a new for old if the appliance is dead...

I just wondered if this is a good idea? I would be obliged to get another hotpoint, (they are coming up well in the latest which? survey) but it seems like a lot of money to pay upfront.

I tried to look for a recommended local repairer but they seem low on the ground or not be answering and either working or on holiday!

Advice greatly appreciated!

never ever buy a warranty scheme. waste of money.

Thank you for your advice but does it work out cheaper to go for the offer of £179.88 for a brand new (about £250) fridge freezer or have I missed something?
I feel a bit dim on this one!
Just more worried about the huge amounts of foods that maybe slowly going off in the freezer!

I heard that the local man can come and fix the problem for around £50 but shame he's not answering the phone huh?

Part of the Furniture 10,000 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
£124.99 to repair or fix the problem, and you have a 5.5 year old appliance.
    OR
a brand new (about £250) fridge freezer.

    It's a no-brainer betwen those two!

Or spend £15 on a new thermostat, google for instructions and fit it yourself. Or buy here.

Or keep trying local domestic appliance repair chaps - they'll be half the price of Hotpoint.
