About 10 years ago we totally sold up and moved to Spain, due to circumstance we had to return to the uk.To cut a very long story, there is no way we can ever buy another house here in the Uk.If i could turn back the clock i would have put my house in the hands of an agent a rented it out.You never know what the future holds, but you must do whats right for you.Good luck with what ever you decide to do.
  • If you advertise a house at the price you bought it at don't expect offers to be at asking price. They are likely to be 10-15% below if you are lucky.

Hi Sioban, I think in your situation I wouldn't be selling, if we were coming to the UK from Aus then I'd hang onto my home (as you say, just in case you don't settle). And the exchange rate is pretty crap so no real incentive there either....

Thanks again everyone for your replies. I do think we will try to sell now instead of renting our house out.
I think you have that the wrong way round. The Aus $ is very strong and a good time to sell in Aus and buy in UK. Your £ will not buy as much in Aus as it would have 6 months ago. However, your house may not sell for X months and no telling what the exchange rate will be then.
