Using mobile internet abroad

I've just picked myself up off the floor having received a monthly phone bill from Orange that includes a charge of £800 for internet use whilst on a recent holiday in Turkey. Before going I purchased a bundle for 30mb for £15 from Orange, and whilst away I invariably accessed the internet via WiFi if various restaurants and cafes. Orange are saying the charge may have been levied because the internet access wasn't switched off on my phone. I didn't even know about this. Has anybody else encountered something similar and were you able to argue that this should've been made clear? The phone bill was more than the holiday!

It's a common problem now that smart phones have taken over the world. It's called data roaming, every little app you have on your phone is constantly updating itself secretly in the back ground and eats up hundreds of mega bytes.
You have to go into your settings and turn this off before you go or this is what happens. Complain about it and you will get a large chunk of the bill chopped off, this seems to be the norm now with the providers, they don't have too but for some reason they do reduce the bill considerably.0 -
I'm certainly going to have a go at getting it reduced. If anybody else has experience of having to do this I'd be grateful for any pointers.0

If you had a credit limit set on your account then the bill should not be greater than that.
£800 is a lot cheaper than some have posted.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
