Stacey, could you elaborate on what you did and didn't like about these butchers?:beer:0 -

OK, I don't get it... why would half a sheep only have one leg? Are the front legs not eaten?:beer:0 -

on the subject of price deals for bulk buys....
my butcher...if you ask........and say you are interested in buying a large quantity he will sell it a discount price per kg..... i bought a whole silveride...( well i think thats what it is called.... its was a big slab of meat anyway ..lol..).. which cost me just over £40. and when he cut it up into joints for me i ened up with 10 good sized joints....which only cost me just over £4. each...... if i bought this as a single joint it would have been around the £6. mark....
but apart from the price diff.... and the quality etc....
the main thing is i trust and got confidence in my butcherWork to live= not live to work0 -
Freshmeat2u- I found the all meat quite fatty e.g. the beef joint had a big fat line running through middle which I wouln't normally buy, the steaks had a lot of fat on. Also came packaged in very thin white poly bags and I had to repack for the freezer. The taste of the meat was no different to Tesco IMO.
Broadstripebutchers- originally supply meat to resturant trade (look at the about us bit on the website) all the meat I have had from them has been beautifully trimmed with very little or no fat. Comes very well packaged and items are all vacuum packed, even whole chickens and joints. Taste excellent. 40% discount helps a lot too!!!!!! If you have ever bought from Donald Russell (stunning meat but at hair raising prices!) I would say it is a good comparision given the value for money.

Awwwgh, maybe the 40% trial code has expired? Worked twice for me, but last order was on 31st May.0

You could have justified that by saying you wanted the back half lol
I also want to use the local butcher, 2 minute walk from my house but I too feel abit silly but only because its local and will probly remember me next time I go in, where as when im in town buying cheese/cooked meats etc I just say what does 200 grams look like and they show me, and it doesnt matter if they think im daft cos next time it might be a different assistant and being busier they wont remember me!Good enough club member number 140 -
I was embarrassed at first too, I am pants at knowing proper weights etc of things so I just ask for what I actually want... 2 chicken breasts or 6 slices of cooked ham etc. My butcher is lovely tho, hes always ready to help and the quality of his meat is so much better than we have ever managed to get in the supermarkets.
He's also very accommodating, I went into the shop this morning to buy some chinese chicken (OH had seen some yesterday in his window and wanted to try it on the pizza we are having for tea). He didn't have any left - BBQ weather and all that, but although I only wanted a small quantity (1 breast fillet) he was quite happy to go and marinade it for me even tho he is not really making much money off the sale. I think I prefer my butchers on the whole because of the level of personal service you receive, it makes all the difference.
Definately don't worry about looking stupid anymore - actually quite like going to butchers now!!!

We have stopped using supermarkets for our meat for some time now. We started using our local butchers as a friend had said their dry cure bacon was the business, sure enough we tried it and it was superb. The price was £6 per kilo. On checking prices on our next visit to Asda we found dry cured bacon was £9 a kilo!!! Even their normal bacon was £6 a kilo, so it does show these big supermarkets are by no means the cheapest on some products.0
