Just spotted this whilst looking on their website
http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/personal/current-accounts/more/basic-bank-account?HBEU_dyn_lnk=CurrentAccount_FilterTool_Basic_Apply_Button
I was wondering, is this the same style basic account as nationwides card cash? Which doesn't credit check (but checks your ID) and reports to CRA's??

why not look at the Barclays basic account if a debit card is important to you.0

You can ask to be upgraded at a later date but it is subject to credit scoring and therefore not guaranteed.
And yes, it is an ATM card only, not a debit card. Before you ask, yes, I work for a bank, but no, I didn't get a bonus!0
