Travel Insurance (Terrorism and delays)

I'm trying to replace my annual travel insurance (Current insurers BAA are pulling out of the market).

Most don't seem to cover terrorism. Does anyone know any that do please? I was also told that if medical care was needed abroad or repatriation due to terrorism this would be covered even if the polices don't cover terrorism. It would only be cancellation of transport that isn't. Can anyone confirm if this is the normal practise?

Finally (off the subject of terrorism) I was told that if you haven't checked in then you can't make a claim for delayed departure or trip abandonment. Under normal circumstances I can understand this but I was told that this has hit people trying to get out of Heathrow during the fog over Xmas who weren't allowed to check in and therefore couldn't make a claim even though otherwise they had a valid claim! Is this true, if it is it is unfair. I had a trip recently on the tunnel where a problem caused a backlog on the motorway leading to the check in machines. I was lucky and got thru' after 5 hours, but I could have fallen foul of this rule as the heathrow passengers did - I couldn't actually check in even though I was there and wanting to do so.

This is my first post so would reaaly appreciate any useful replies.

Thank you.

You will almost certainly not find a policy that covers losses for terrorism.... insurers would run the risk of lossing billions in a single incident if they were to cover this. The reality is that most insurers however do not want bad press and whilst the policy excludes terrorism they will pay out to avoid sensational headlines - I know we paid out on a number of people that died in the 9/11 attacks despite their technical exclusion on cover.

As to delays and check in - have to say that I havent heard of this criteria but then I am not a travel insurance expert. Having looked at the free insurance I get with my bank account the only exclusion under the travel delay is industrial action announced or commenced before you left your home and there is no specification about check in.
