No right to cancelation?

Hi All,

I've just ordered 2 tickets for the chili peppers concert in november online (lucky me :D). I have a couple of friends that wanted to come with us so I called AEG Live to get an alteration to the booking to add two tickets on and to change the seats to a block of four together.

I was met with "I'm sorry sir but you can't change your booking once it has been made, if you wish to book additional seats you must do it through the website"... this is fine, so I repond with.... "thats understandable, can I please cancel this booking and i'll take my chances of booking a different four seats on your website?"... to this the response was a strange "No sir, unfortunately you can't cancel tickets you have brought online". I'm sure this can't be legal as i'm sure I have a cooling off period, especially when you take into account I don't have any goods to return as the concert isn't until november and wont physically see any tickets until october.

I asked to speak to a manager and was told that "nobody is available i'm afraid", the customer service (lol) chap then went away to speak to his manager (Now why couldn't I speak to him myself???) and came back and repeated his mantra that its not possible to cancel or change tickets that are booked. This banter continued for 2-3 minutes until I gave up and just asked for the complaints department and was met again with "nobody is available i'm afraid".

Had there been no seats left that could accomodate us i'd have been perfectly happy but the lack of help offered left me quite annoyed (and yes I refrained from abusing the poor fella).

Can anyone shed any light on my rights here?

Unfortunately, my guess would be that you have no rights - event tickets are usually exempt from DSRs and the Ts and Cs generally state specifically that there are no returns or refunds. Given that it's a music concert where you probably wouldn't be actually socialising would it really be so bad not to be sitting together?
  • It's not going to spoil the event itself but theres always an element of enjoying something together with friends! I recall my first ever concert, Aerosmith @ Wembley; Steve Tyler and his band of merry men were amazing and would have been regardless of who I was sat with but had I been sat 5 rows away from my friends i'd certainly not remember it in the same way as I do now.

Can you all stand together in General Admission, or is it an all-seated event?
  • It's not all seated but the only tickets we could get (not that said website allowed any kind of self allocation) were in a completely seated area :(
  • Could make an educated guess at how close we are, I personally don't have a massive issue with being a bit apart but there's some hesitancy from one of the others. I do think it would detract slightly but still chuffed to have tickets for the chili's. Just doesn't seem right that I don't have the right to cancel if I wanted too.
