worked for 9 year only getting 6 years redundancy

Just got my redundancy letter through (claiming through government) i started when i was 16 and was there for 9 years but i'm only getting 6 years worth of redundancy (6 weeks) why is this?

    For statutory redundancy pay purposes, you only get half a week's pay for each complete year of service below age 22, and one week's pay thereafter. So you are getting 6 x 1/2 weeks plus 3 x full weeks = 6 weeks in total.

    agree with Jarndyce. Although age discrimination is supposedly illegal, it doesn't apply to redundancy payments unfortunately
