Social Housing - Flat Offered: What's the Catch?
Comments

It might be a bit manky but at least with a social housing let you can be fairly sure the heating and wiring etc is safe and legal.
A good scrub, some white paint (hold a decorating party!), a couple of cheerful rugs and throws can really turn a place round. There'll probably be a tenants' handbook telling you what alterations you can make without permission and what you need to ask permission for.
Even if it turns out to be not what you want, at least you're in the social housing system and you may be able to get an exchange/transfer in years to come.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Thank you all for the supportive replies and great suggestions
! I'll have a look into the social fund thingy/care and repair service (thx, CwtA and good luck to you, too!). Yes, it would be fantastic to finally find a place I can call home for a longer time and which I don't have to leave because of noisy, ignorant, selfish neighbours and landlords who don't care about the state of their properties ... I've just been reading another neighbours-from-hell thread on here ... omg, this sounded like my story!!!

Check out the neighbours before you sign up. Maybe go round in the evening or late at night? Speak to some of the neighbours? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Wow, enjoy your new home. I'm sure you'll have i looking great in no time.
Often although associations have lists years long, this is more for family housing. We often have trouble letting our sheltered stock, doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it, just we have many more sheltered units and not a great number on the waiting list.0
