LOOPHOLE: EXTRA £50 OFF CAR INSURANCE:
Get Car Insurance from Egg, and providing you’ve got a savings account, you’ll get £50 cashback, yet you can open a savings account with just £1 and qualify.
Now of course Egg isn’t always cheapest. So here’s what you do. Read the ‘cheapest car insurance articles’ and follow the method. Then check Egg, if Egg doesn’t cost more than £50 more – set up a savings account with just £1 if you don’t have already have one, get the Egg insurance and you’re quids in.
Car Insurance Articles both include details about this and contacts: Quick Read or Extended Feature
Some answers from Egg:
ML: How much money do you need in a savings account to get the £50?
Egg: The £50 is not linked to savings account balance, it is linked to buying a motor insurance policy from Egg. All savings customers with the standard minimum of £1 balance are eligible for the £50, as long as they buy a motor policy from us.
ML: How long after setting the savings account up are you eligible for the £50?
The £50 will be deposited into the savings account within 4 weeks of the motor insurance policy being purchased; as long as a savings account has been set up there is no minimum time for having held the account (again as long as the customer has bought a motor policy from us).
ML: How long is this deal likely to last?
We plan for the deal to last until 31st Dec 2004 but reserve the right to withdraw or amend the offer at any time

You also get the £50 cashback if you've got an Egg card and pay for your insurance with it (if you've got a savings account as well, you only get one lot of cashback, though!).
There's also 10% off for buying online.
I've been shopping around and found their quote to be one of the cheapest - what a bonus. ;D0 -
My insurance is already with UK-I (UK INSURANCE) and I noticed that the egg site goes of to theirs for retrival of a quote...

Therefore I should also be on a winner
Great tip, thing this ones getting a vote for the best of the month from me0 -
I got the email from egg offering this deal and, from where I'm sitting, it looks as if you don't need to have a savings account with them, you just need to pay the policy on your egg card.
Pasted from the offer page:
£50 cash back if you're an Egg Savings customer or when you pay for our motor cover with your Egg Card.
Have they just worded it badly? ???My friend drowned in a bowl of muesli.
He was pulled in by a strong currant.0 -
I have just renewed my insurance, tried all the great sites that Martin recommends and egg were £100 cheaper before I got the £50 cash back ;D
Strangely Tesco use the same insurance company, the forms are identical, yet they were £200 dearer!!
Tesco and Egg also allow you to drive the car for business use which saved me an additional £50
If you pay by your egg credit card, egg will allow the payments to be interest free for the 12 month period!!!! Even if your card isn't interest free!!!
Nice one Egg!!0 -
Thanks for the tip Martin, Egg were £5.00 more than the cheapest quote I had so with the £50.00 cash back they will be £45.00 cheaper, however, a word of warning for those in a hurry........... although you can apply online for a savings account you still have to wait for Egg to send you the forms to sign and return to them before the account is open, in our case it added 4 days so not too bad but not good if you want immediate cover.Peteraj.
Trying hard to save money and trying to help friends do the same by finding the real "Moneysaving" bargains and avoiding companies that take my custom for granted.0 -
If you want to tweak this loophole a little more and you haven't already got an Egg Card, you can get an extra £5 cashback for a successful application. Details here.0

went for it,opened savings account online and waited for the papers etc to come through. Bit strange though as no point could I see where I put the details of my savings account into the quote. How do they know Ihave a savings account to transfer the money into?0

this offer no longer available! egg bod said it finished in November ::)... just missed it. still, i did take out the car insurance; @ £282.45 it was cheaper than my tesco qoute (been with them for two years) by about £20. plus they throw in a hire car, which tesco charge extra for. money savers tip... as i was struggling to get quote on-line, i rang Egg. when quote was accepted i told them that why i had rung and that i would now have to go back on line and buy the insurance. After some whispered discussion i was offered the on-line discount! ;D thankyou Egg, saved me having to go through th ewhole thing on my slow dial-up.
keep it up money saversif i had known then what i know now0
