Professional Item Insurance

Options
I have a bit of an issue in getting insurance for an item I use at work.
I'm a dentist and to make sure my posture is good and I can see really clearly I have bought myself a pair of magnifying glasses called loupes. Essentially they are mini-binoculars.
My home insurance is up for renewal soon but trying to find any contents insurance policies which cover anything I use at work is proving to be a nightmare. Some say that because I use these glasses at work it is therefore a business item and they will not cover me for them. The insurance companies providing medical equipment cover are more in the realms of providing cover for xray units, medical eqipment bags and defibrillators and they say their cover would be too advanced for these glasses. Business insurance seems to cover those who own their own businesses which is not the case for me as I am employed by the NHS.

If anyone has any advice or recommendations for any insurance companies which would either add these to a normal contents policy or not require them to be classed that would be very useful. Any help at all is appreciated.
Thankyou!

What perils are you looking to be covered for? Just theft or theft + Accidental damage? Or are you also effectively looking for a warranty on breakdown too?

What sort of value are they new?
  • They are worth £1500.

You may be able to shoe horn it into a Tools Insurance policy but these are more aimed at trademen.

Your best bet is to phone a local broker (not swinton) and they should be able to find an appropriate policy for you and you'll have cover from their PI insurance if an issue comes about if the policy was the right sort
