Be wary of putting bills just in your name; you might be left in the lurch.
Try the supermarkets for work; you often get a staff discount card as well. And don't just try walking into shops -try banks, accountants, solicitors, anything. You'd be surprised at how they prefer people with a bit of gumption instead of just CVs from agencies (for lower end jobs).

There's quite a bit of discussion on some of the other boards about trying to get jobs in supermarkets - apparently they're just as over-subscribed as most other employers at the moment.
I've been trying to get a second job for a while (OH is unemployed) and it's murder trying to get anything - I have a pretty respectable CV and can't even get interviews with fast food chains
