In terms of the credit card if you have to deafault on it and stop spending on it and arrange a payment plan then so be it. Your first priorities are obviously rent and food, gas/electric etc and if you haven't got anything left for the credit card then it's tough really.
Also I think with anything you'll need to shop around - try the National Childbirth Trust as they have nearly new sales try ebay, gumtree, charity shops - things like that to try and get any bits and pieces you need - also some councils have furniture stores where people on benefits/low income get access to cheap bits of furniture etc. Obviously as things improve you can invest in nicer pieces/things more to your taste though.
Also lots of being organised- you'd need to weigh up being near work/childcare to save time verus the fact that living further away might be cheaper for you, depending on where in London you are/want to be.
Batch cooking and things like that - ie cook double and freeze half for another meal - just oldstyle frugal living really.
Careful budgetting I think.
