Returning to Argos without receipt

My satellite set top box has gone faulty. I bought it from Argos on 6th Nov 2010, I have the credit card statement, but not the receipt.

I am envisioning the staff saying that they can't do anything without a receipt, as it seems to be standard practice in most shops.

So does anyone know what I need to quote to say that the credit card statement is sufficient evidence?

TIA

Dont think credit card statement is enough, As they need to scan the barcode on the receipt as that contains the order number.

So to find the order manually would be out of the question, Unless you got someone who will go out there way to search back.

If you paid by card, bank statement will be sufficient, but in order to help the member of staff find your transaction, go back to the actual store you bought the item in and take your card as well as your statement because we can call a team who will be able to look up transaction details with the card number, however you will need to go back to the same store you purchased it from for them to do this.

    Hope this helps.

yes you dont ned a reciept and argos are pretty good.

i purchased a metal pend shed 5 yrs ago which had a 10 yr manufacturers anti-rust guarantee, but this was that rusty it was leaking etc. we no longer had the reciept for this, so contacted argos who told us that their system only hold transactions for 3 yrs, so they would need to contact their tech team, which after 48 hrs they emailed me the order details along with the custoimer server number of the manufacturer. contacted the manufacturer who refused to give out an email addrerss or fact number to send then photo evidence of the rust, but they stated they would send out some touch up paint. 2 weeks later 4 x 1fl oz bottles arrived to cover the rust of a 6 x 4 shed. this contained a comploment slip with the co address and fax details, so i faxed and wrote a letter, no reply so i tried to call them and no one answers phone, so i contacted argos who agreed to refund the whole cost of the shed £120, but we had to send the shed back to them, which whey collected within 48 hours.

If you are intending to use their warranty, then you may well need a receipt. That depends on the terms of their warranty.

But if you are intending to use SOGA, then the statement is fine BUT as the item is over 6 months old, they may ask you to prove that the fault was inherent.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

    Just a quick update.

Everything went very smoothly, they couldn't find the transaction or the original catalogue number, so the manager said sending it off for a repair would be a pain. So they swapped it for an equivalent new one, and refunded the difference :)

Thanks to all for the replies :)

That manager sounds a bit like me. Just yesterday "It's a £50 vacuum cleaner, I really can't be bothered to go through the hassle of sending it for repair...have a new one."

    Good result
