Spain's rules are that the passport only needs to be valid for the period of the visit.

Why not just get a new one anyway, its only a few weeks, as the last for 10 years its not worth bothering about losing much.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    Entry Requirements - Passport validity

Your passport must be valid for the proposed duration of your stay. No additional period of validity beyond this is required. However, it is always sensible to have a short period of extra validity on your passport in case of any unforeseen delays to your departure. You do not have to wait until your old passport expires to apply to renew it. Any time left on your old passport when you apply will be added to your new passport, up to a maximum of nine months.

    You wouldnt be saving £150

You would still be paying it, but either now or in a few weeks.

Not if they won't be going away again till next year or even a few years. Although they run the risk of price increases.
