Charged £14.99 for EHIC

Last night I typed EHIC into google knowing that mine needed renewing and chose the first website that I found. Today I have seen the information on here and have seen that EHIC's are free.
The website I used says it is a check and send service, I used a credit card to pay for it and I am wondering if there is anyway I can stop the payment and the order.
And also if anyone else has used the website ( eu-healthcard[dot]com ) so that I know they aren't going to do anything dodgy with my card details and all the other details I put in.
Thanks

I wouldn't have thought now you've used the service you can withdrawn payment now. Whether we agree or not with the fact they are charging for their so called service for something that is free I'm not sure there is a way out now. Sorry.0

There is another thread knocking around regarding this.
The site you clicked on is more likely to have been one of the sponsored listing at the top of the actual search results.
Now you have given them your card details they will probably say its too late to cancel.0 -
For future ref the correct site is here: https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/home.do
God knows what the company claims to check, it's a short and simple form.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
They check nothing, but what a good way to make easy money. Google placing can be had for very little money, I have a site that only costs me about £50 a month (depending on how many people click on my link) and for that I get top billing on searches and a box advert down the right hand side.thegirlintheattic wrote: »For future ref the correct site is here: https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/home.do

Got to say it's a very good business idea to charge unsuspecting people for a free service though, can't see anything illegal in it.
To be honest the OP was happy to pay the money for the service, now wants a refund when they find out they could have got it for free. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
There's quite a few threads about this.
Apparently back in 2010, Office of Fair Trading closed a number of these websites down but they seem to have sprung up again.
All the sites I've looked at (not the proper one but the ones charging) do actually say (and not just in the small print) that you can get the EHIC free so maybe that's their loophole to continue trading.
I do think it's sharp practice at the very least.0 -
