Land Transaction Return

Dear All,
New to forums and have done a basic search on "Land Transaction Returns" on this site, however, couldn't see what i was after.
Anyway, today, i collected some post from a property i sold back in 2006 and it's from HMRC refering to "LTR from me relating to this property" (which i have not lived in since i sold it in 2006!) My total liability is £881. The date of issue is the 11th July 2011.
As far as i can make out, my solicitor at the time of the sale should have sorted this out as part of their service, surely?
I suppose the next step is to ring HMRC to find out whats going on!
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Do you still have your paperwork relating to the contract with your solicitor (i.e. when they quoted for their work / told you what they would do)? Is there any mention of this in there? Did they advise you that you would need to do this afterwards?
I think you're correct in saying they should have done this, but if you still have any documentary stuff it will help if / when you make your formal complaint to the solicitor...0
