Upgrading my computer

Quick question. I've got into my PC Gaming recently (Mainly use my PC as a media hub) I have a great GFX card which I've overclocked so it manages all todays games fine as well as Blu Ray films. My current processor is an AMD X2 240 2.8GHZ (Overclocked to 3.1GHZ)

I'm looking to buy the AMD X6 1055T as thats the best my MOBO will take.

My question is, as I can't remember. If I installed a new CPU, does it require a re-install of Windows 7 Ultimate? I cannot find my disk anywhere so I'm curious mainly.

not necessarily , no - provided the initial install is indeed genuine, all should be okay. Re-activation might be necessary -- slightly unsure of this .

Original install fully activated and genuine. I just wonder, otherwise I might get a new mobo instead

I did a processor replacement on a Windows 7 professional PC about a week ago. It did not require any re-install or activation. Windows monitors changes to hardware and requires activation when it 'detects' that it is on a different computer. I'm not sure on the rules but it seems to be changing two or three minor components at once, or one significant one. I would expect a motherboard change to trigger a re-activation request.

If your Win7 is Retail it will not require activation after a motherboard change,Retail is never tied to the same PC so you change the motherboard etc as often as you like as far as im aware!!!

... except when it does! A quick Google search shows a number of instances where reactivation has been required after a motherboard change. If this happens, then ringing Microsoft should give a positive result.
