Home Insurance Saving

Received an auto renewal from Direct Line for home/contents insurance for £496  and my payment last year was about £338. Thats a really nice 50% increase!
Thats with no claims and no changes.
"Your home insurance will be renewed automatically..." I dont think so not at that price.
Phoned them up and they said "oh we can give you the same discount as last year and drop that down to about £355, how does that sound?" I said its much better but I'll think about it and get back to them.
Did a few checks around and managed to get it for £192 quid (with a little bit of drop in cover...things I dont really need tbh). On top of that I will hopefully recieve a £38 quid cashback
So my insurance for the comming year has gone from 496 -> 355 -> 192 and hopefully will end up about 154
:j:beer:
Stupid for direct line though as I've been with them for the last 3 years, why try to hike up the prices. If they had just quoted me for the 355 at the start for renewal I might not have even bothered to check around.
Definitely pays to shop a bit :money:
