What is EDF online like

Hi,
Thinking of switching from Scottish power to EDF (fix 2014).

I like the online format of SP, especially after the rubbish Npower one I switched from last year. With SP it is very interactive allowing you to see your current balance and any payments to the account etc.

Is the EDF one similar to that or very basic like the npower one I knew last year.
Thanks.

Since joining EDF last year I still haven't been able to create an online account with them - systems undergoing upgrades. Many others experience the same.
I wouldn't expect to be able to use their online facilites if you do jump, but meter readings get accepted over the phone and bills follow so you can keep track of usage yourself.

I second that. I'm still waiting for an online account, although they have got a phone app which works fine. Also be careful with the T&C's about being put on the standard tartiff for an initial period while they register your account. I was on it for over 3 months, but I'm going to give them a call about that!!

I'm one of the lucky ones and have an online account. Its very user friendly, you can submit readings and look back at old bills. I also find it useful that it tells me when my next bill is due so I know to submit a reading a week or so before so its an accurate bill as opposed to a made up (estimated bill!)

    janninew,
are you a new customer or have you had online access for some time, eg before the upgrade cootuk talked about? Also does the system get updated in real time, for example when a a direct debit is paid does it show on the system and update your balance.

that worries me about being put on the standard tariff, would that be something to do with not have online access which may be a requirement for some tariffs?

    Thanks for the replies.

There are many of us who have just switched from E.ON to EDF, and I think the general consensus would be "It's a joke".

They may be a joke, but their 2012 fixed saver deal was the cheapest I could find for my usage. I'm not bothered about the online side as you can eventually get through on the phone (30mins waiting) if there's a problem, and the call centre bods seem human enough and helpful.

Just check the rates for your area before ringing.

The standard rate for gas is cheaper than the 2014 fixed rate. Depends on your consumption levels.

If it's not favourable ask them for a refund as you clearly signed up to the fixed tariff.

We had this with OS7 and they backed down in writing and said they would make refunds.

I can't believe it's still going on but I am afraid EDF have lost the plot completely.

Hi, in answer to the original post, EON and ScottishPower have very good online accounting.

EDF and Npower have more basic versions.
  • I started the process of switching to EDF a just over a week ago & have already set up my online account with the paperwork they sent.
