We are going to Shanklin on saturday for 1 week, can anyone advise on family activities for us? We are 2 adults, 1 child, 1 infant and 1 dog! Thank you

we have just returned and can recommend the robin hill country park, great for kids and a nice walk for the adults/dog - take your own food though as its ££££££££0

We've just come back 2nd year running....Defintely agree with Robins Hill. If you're staying in Shanklin, you've got to eat out at Fishermans Cottage at the bottom of the chine, or if you're on the esplanade keep walking towards Appleby steps...it's the best fish and chips ever.
As you're going in august ...check out:
Open air movie night at Robins Hill http://cinema.robin-hill.com/
Needles has a fantastic firework display and fire eaters on thursday nights http://www.theneedles.co.uk/whats_on.php
If you love Garlic, visit the garlic farm. https://www.thegarlicfarm.co.uk/ and this years garlic festival is 20th - 21st August
Personally I wouldn't visit Blackgang Chine again, or Amazon World....didn't feel these were value for money.0 -
The beaches are the obvious places to go (weather permitting) for the kids. Shanklin, Sandown and Ventnor beaches are good and close by. There's a long sandy beach at Ryde too.
Robin Hill Park is good, but perhaps not so much for an infant as there's a lot of walking (it's a large area) although there is a tractor ride now to take you around. The cinema is an evening thing so perhaps not very good for a child and infant.
Blackgang Chine is probably very tacky for adults but I bet your kids will love it. Young children might actually prefer it to Robin Hill (you can get a combined ticket to both parks slightly cheaper and both parks allow free entry again within a week of your first visit).
There's quite a few small zoo type places - possibly the best one if Seaview Wildlife Park which is just outside Ryde.
Haven't been to Amazon World, but one of our kids went with school and loved it.
The Needles Park is ok, the best bit is probably the chair lift down to the beach.
There's also a dinosaur 'museum' just outside Sandown and plenty of opportunity to hunt for fossils on the beaches.
Either on the ferry or when you arrive, try and pick up a few of the many free guides which will list the attractions. There's a free Attractions Map, a free Pocket Guide and free Eating Guide which you may find handy.
Also, you should look out for the town carnivals. Sandown Carnival was last week and others are coming up in August. They have children's carnivals as well as the main ones.
