If you don't want a flashy interface, then just disable Aero.
Vista is just as stable as XP. And it's definitely more secure (by design). The thing that would put me off is that it's not as well grounded, or established as XP. Certain apps haven't been ported across, drivers too etc... But that's just a waiting game."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
What is the price of vista going to be?
Is it worth getting an OEM XP from ebuyer see link
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/119649/rb/24189426546
and paying $8 for postage to get a copy, or waiting for vista to come out?
Am sure the cheapest option could be the one listed above? Anyone beat this price?0 -

Its not up to people to tell you whats better in VISTA... Its up to you to see what you want to do with it then compare it to XP and see if it would be better.. Do a little searching and you will see a LOT of differences between the two. The pretty interface isnt just there to make it look better its actually going to use some of that graphics power that people spend £300-£400 on and only see the benefit in the odd game. Personally if an operating system could fully utilise every aspect of my computer to make it run faster and look better then Im all for it. And before people start on about the system hog stuff.. Windows VISTA takes what isnt being used and uses it... It does not need to constantly use 1GB ram or 256MB of video memory but wouldnt it be good if it does this when not playing games??0 -
Enjoy being the bug-testers guys, i'm gonna stick with what I know works until the cost of hardware comes down and it becomes an established OS.
I really don't get the mentality of spending 300-400 quid on a graphics card..give me Doom or wolfenstein 3D anyday

NP mate... If it wasnt for people willing to take on the job then people like you would still be running Windows 3.1.. Dont worry we will be as quick as possible and get as many bugs as possible so you can get a good nights sleep and wont be scared to install it..ringo_24601 wrote:I really don't get the mentality of spending 300-400 quid on a graphics card..give me Doom or wolfenstein 3D anyday
Some of us have finished DOOM and Wolfenstein and would like a better challenge as well as more realistic graphics and High Definition outputs for our new big telly0 -
A full copy of Vista varies from £180 to £370 on Amazon. An upgrade ranges from £100 to £250. I don't know if they're official prices or a best guess from Amazon though. It's my problem, it's my problem

And it's my problem if I have no friends

simple buy the XP with the free upgrade and wait until Service Pack 1 is out for vista then swap from XP to vistaScottish proverb - "Never drink whisky with water and never drink water without whisky"0
