Where to get some holiday sunshine Jan/Feb?

Hi all,

Hoping for some advice from any travellers and holiday makers out there...

We are hoping to be able to get away for about 10 days (give or take) in Jan or early Feb time next year (limited because of work) and are looking for some destination inspiration?

Not sure on budget yet, but definately want good value (as every good mse'er)

We are a couple, and would like some sunshine - it doesn't need to be swealtering hot, but at least in the 20's! We'd like it to be a relaxing holiday but definately need somewhere there are things to see and do. We would both get restless on the beach or poolside for more than a couple of days.

We've both been to the Canaries and to Dubai so would not be looking at either of these - any suggestions?

Where have you been that you really enjoyed at that time of year?
And what made it so great?

Thanks in advance, just need some pointers on where to start looking

An idea of your budget would be helpful so that people don't suggest something totally innappropriate. I would personally recommend Sri Lanka at that time of year, and split the time between a tour of the Cultural Triangle and the beach.

Madeira offers English summer weather in the middle of the winter and has great walking and scenery.

Really just getting some ideas together at the moment, so not sure what we'd need to spend to get what we're looking for. For the most part in the past we've tended to take holidays during European summertime, so we've mostly stayed around the area. Any holidays further a field have been combined with work.

Still need to work out a balance between what we can afford and what we'd need to spend. Although this holiday is going to be a bit of a treat, as afterwards we'll be concentrating more on saving (for a house deposit) - we thought we'd have a blow-out before we tackle that seriously!

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I've put them on my list for further investigation!

Its difficult without a budget but the Caribbean or thailand are good bets. Thailand is cheap when you get there.

Air Canada sometimes have good fares via Canada to places in Florida like Fort Lauderdale.

Caribbean is very expensive as its High Season from December to Easter. Florida would match your requirments, take a flight to Miami not Orlando and after a few days chilling out, (or visiting the art galleries) rent a car and drive, the choices are endless, down to the Keys, across Alligator Alley to the west Coast with lots of small cities to visit or up the east coast to Daytona Beach, Kennedy Space Centre or even inland to Orlando. The weather should be low to mid twenties.

If you look at AI in the Caribbean then it would be really expensive. I think folks have the idea that AI is the way forward and we also thought that the first time we went. However if you fiind a good s/c you then are in control of your holiday. :) We spend less going this way, eating and drinking what and where we want, and doing all the trips we want, or hiring a car.

We've been very warm in Egypt at that time, on the mainland ie, not Sinai, but south of Hurghada down towards the Sudan.

We had a week in Hurghada this year starting on the 28th January. It was sunny but there was a chilly breeze and the evenings were quite cool.
