aside from the inability to opt out of neighbour deliveries, I dont see any harm in the rest (for me personally)
though I wonder how many complaints and claims they'd get for leaving post with the wrong neighbour?
My next door neighbours, (after I took something in for them once), left a big note on the door saying to leave any parcels with the neighbour the other side.
After I almost broke my back carrying it in for them as she couldn't lift it. Was very appreciative at the time, huh.
The same thing happened months later.
They then had the cheek at Xmas to ask if I'd taken anything in for them as something they were waiting for hadn't arrived.
I childishly enjoyed telling them that I had told the courier I wasn't allowed to accept anything for them at their request.0 -
I've had issues with deliveries to their 'multi-drop' addresses before, an address such as an old house converted into flats, postman shoves post through the main door and any person who happens to walk past (other residents, people visiting, gas meter reader...) can help themselves to the mail. I trust my neighbours, but I certainly don't trust my customer's neighbours.
This will be great fun with people living in tower blocks, if half the building are out, does the other half get their parcels or does the guy at number 1 get every parcel?
This is what a resident of Italy said happens to a lot of their parcel post and we all know how a lot of people on this list regard posting parcels to Italy.
I'm really lucky, the village I live in has a caring postman who is does his round in a van, this means that if he has a signed for package and you're out then he will call in again on his way back to the depot before he drops a card.0 -
As ever it seems they look at a problem and address it with an answer that raises as many problems as it solves.
I know all areas are different but as far as mine is concerned if they actually delivered parcels when there was more chance of people being in then there wouldn't be a problem. Royal Mail tend to deliver parcels to the wholly residential area I live in at between 2 and 3pm. Conversely where my business premises are which is largely 9 to 9.30am opening industrial area they often attempt deliveries before 9.
As a sensible question Custardy, do they actually study any facts and figures regarding who gets deliveries when or do they just do it randomly?
the problem you have is that the 'moderisation' (has to go in quotes because its really an exercise in service & staff reduction) proramme has caused delays in mail through the network
so say 7 years ago
you had staff on the street before 8 am,with separate van duties covering packet /Special Delivery/businesses
now you have delivery staff not leaving the delivery offices until 10 am (or later)
you have duties covered daily on an ad hoc basis with folks doing a bit here and a bit there
so packets maybe done early to get them done with the mail done later at another time
you then have the disaster that is park & loop (RM are trying to keep this even if it is a failure) which has seen duties torn to pieces, designed by computer & failed by humans
people need to accept that the service will continue to degrade0 -

Further, it wants business contract customers to no longer be able to seek compensation for the loss or damage of postal items sent using untracked services such as Mailsort and Packetpost.
I doubt Recorded will class as tracked, are Royal Mail mail trying to push their tracked service on businesses as it's obvious they won't all pay for SD?
well the simple answer is dont have a defunct letterbox on the main door
there are many flats of that type where the letterbox on the main door is the delivery point
so if folks dont want that letterbox used then remove/seal it0 -

I agree but it's not my letter box we are talking about. This also doesn't stop parcels and Signed For items being left with whoever happens to answer the door.
The postman leaving a parcel with a random guy at a house of flats cost me £50 and when I phoned the delivery office to complain I was basically told tough luck. I resent the order and wrote on the front the previous parcel was stolen and to please only leave with addressee or return to the delivery office, someone else signed for it... Fortunately they gave it to the right person.
Point is if issues like this already cause problems with dishonest people keeping other people's post what's it going to be like when a 'neighbour' (is that next door or anyone in the street?) can take the post in. If the parcel is chased at the delivery office will the postman remember that the small parcel for number 12 was left with number 16? I doubt it. Not to mention people falsely claiming non-receipt and saying 'maybe it was delivered somewhere else'.
As for Royal Mail stopping compensation for businesses, nice of them to stiff their biggest customers. The word compensation is a joke too because they aren't covering packaging materials or the time and cost of all the paperwork they require from me because they choose to discriminate against eBay sellers by not allowing them to file claims via BMAC.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

but if the delivery point is that one letterbox then thats it as far as RM and their licence requirements dictate. RM deliver to addresses. as i said, there are many flats where they have retained one letterbox on the front

agreed, plus RMs wonderful computer designed duties dont allocate that level of time to deliver a package

Im surprised RM hasnt tried to drop all insurance levels on standard post and made it a cost option0 -
Yeah saw this on TV, I trust my neighbours and we already take in post for each other. My normal postie also gives me my Nans post if its too big to go through her letterbox. Although her neighbours also would take in post.
As for me if this goes ahead, I shall use a courier for all my ebaying selling. Shame really as my local post office staff know me by name. The Fields are Green, The sky is blue, the River Nene goes winding through, The market square is Cobblestoned, It shakes the old dears to their bones, A finer town you'll never see, A finer town they'll never be, Big city lights don't bother me, Northampton Town I'm proud to be!0 -
How long will it be until Royal Mail get rid of 1st & 2nd Class bringing in a "Standard" class0

I have the most fab neighbours, but I can understand why someone with the neighbours from hell would be against the idea, however, I tink that less time at the sorting office is a good idea, who takes 21 days to collect their post, even if you're were away on a fortnight holiday you would still be able to make 18 days!!! (normally) :undecided:undecided:undecided0
