In a bit of a jam and can't pay the phone bill immediately. BT have said they'll restrict my service if not paid by a certain date. I believe this means no outgoing calls, which i can live with.
But does this also restrict internet use? (I'm with another ISP, not BT)

No, that shouldn't have anything to do with BT (except that they have to carry the other ISP's broadband on their line).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

As long as the line is active, your broadband will not be affected. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Following the restriction the line will probably then proceed to a cease - which means your ISP will be notified that the shut down of the line is pending.
The ISP should contact you at that point to notify you of the termination of your broadband service.
Then the line will be ceased and both will stop.0 -
Obviously if it's disconnected the BB will stop :rotfl: but hopefully I'll sort something out before it reaches that point.0

I hope so, because disconnection (i.e without a MAC transfer) will result in a cease charge of £25 on your broadband account, and BT will charge you for eventual reconnection-and probably also want a deposit upfront against future bills. No free lunch, and no free laptop

If I remember rightly, when we had a dispute with BT and told them where to put the phone line, the time between the restriction and the complete cease was about ten days (e.g. the ADSL carried on working for about 10 days after the calls stopped). We had an email from the ISP about a week before the line was due to shut down.0
