I'm south facing. I keep all the windows shut in the day, blinds down upstairs. Come evening I fling all the windows open all over the house and by bedtime it's been cool.0

have you got a loft hatch? If you prop this open a bit a lot of the hot air will escape into the loft. It's free and certainly worth a try.
Whenever i've been in the loft in summer its been stiffling0
