No JSA money after almost 4 weeks

I filled in the online JSA form on 1st July and had my first appointment at the Job Centre on 2nd July.
I then attended again the following week for a proper signing on, where I also spent about an hour with an advisor (who was very helpful). She checked my claim, which was showing as "non-payment".
Next week, I found myself a job so filled in the green appointment card and shoved it through the Job Centre letterbox on my way to work.
To date, I'm yet to receive any JSA payment. Not only that, but in the meantime, I've travelled to two interviews by bus and had to buy two weekly bus tickets for the job, in addition to all my usual living costs. (The agency also managed to mess up my first week's pay so I won't be seeing that until next week, but that's another story)
Has anyone else known it to take this long? I phoned the 0800 number last week, but was told to contact Cosham BDC on an 0845. I can't afford to call this from my mobile and they are conveniently only open at the times when I'm working (except lunchtime).

Best advice is to contact the 0845, you won't speak to Cosham directly it'll be an enquires team. If they can't give you an update then they'll get Cosham to call you back.
The contact centres are open 8-6 Monday to Friday and if you ask them to call you straight back when you get through it'll save you the expense of the call.
It can take a while for them to process your claim for a myriad of different reasons but normally it takes on average 2 weeks. Only they'll know what is happening so find some time to calll them. If you are entitled then your payment will be one lump sum from the start date of the claim (minus the first three days called waiting days) to the date you started work.0 -
Did you claim Income Related or Contribution Based..
When you were told it was 'non-payment' she might have been advising you that you are entitled to sweet !!!! all.0 -

I would hope the agent would have meant "Live but not in payment" i.e. no decision had been made at that point. If it was a nill award/no entitlement, a letter would have been issued regardless to inform of that decision.
Sounds as if no letter has been received else the question would have been a totally different one. Probably not had a decision made at this moment in time.0 -
Possibly, but in my experience most benefit claimants dont bother to read any letter that is sent out to them, either through lazyness or stupidity.I would hope the agent would have meant "Live but not in payment" i.e. no decision had been made at that point. Income related only. From my own calculations, I would be eligible for the majority of the £53.75.Did you claim Income Related or Contribution Based..

No letter or any other correspondence. I read al my post so haven't missed anything.Sounds as if no letter has been received else the question would have been a totally different one. Probably not had a decision made at this moment in time.0 -
I had the same problem, claimed on the 4th, interviews on 11th&12th; signed the 12th&26th and on 26th my claim was still showing 'not in payment', I called and they sorted it (apparently), but it still didn't get paid on Friday like it was supposed to. As above, you have to call the 0845 (unless saynoto0870 has an alternative)
I've not received anything through the post either, and mine's 4 weeks today.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -

Did you call the Contact Centre?
Like I said they'll chase it up with Cosham Benefit Centre who should give you an update. Even if you cannot take a call they'll leave a note on the claim so the contact centre can advise you when you call back. It's worth the phone call.0 -

That'll be because either a) the claim wasn't processed by the 26/7 sign on date and/or b) the signing evidence hadn't been updated due to claim not being processed so the JC wouldn't be able to update it on that day.
The letter gets sent once the claim is awarded. This gets issued 2nd class so it maybe on it's way to yourself if they have sorted it out. Did they confirm payment?
There isn't an alternative to calling. The JC will tell the claimant to call as they don't have time to discuss claims.0 -
When I phoned they couldn't explain why the payment hadn't gone, they processed it manually and it went in same day in the end.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0

Letter will be on it's way. Presumably you phoned Friday and they issued a direct payment later that day.
Like I said that'll because the claim was processed after you signed. If they had issued the payment as soon as it was processed it would have cleared your account sometime this week i.e late. It's why it's good to give them a call. They will try and get payment sorted if 11 working days have elapsed and they aren't waiting for information from the claimant.0
