Freemans reject my ppi claim

Hi i have just had a final response from freemans stating they are not upholding my claim. Their reasons are that since the cover was on my account since 1999 & shown clearly on the statements every month, i had every oppotunity to cancel it @ anytime? This doesnt change the fact that i believe it was misold. I really cant remember even signing up for it. Let alone every being given any alternatives??
Any advice?

What they are saying is that they dont believe you feel it was mis-sold as it has taken you 144 statements to decide you were mis-sold and they feel your complaint is opportunistic.I really cant remember even signing up for it.
So what was your complaint about?Let alone every being given any alternatives??
They dont have to offer alternatives. Thats an internet myth.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Thanx for your reply.
The account was closed in around 2006, so havent had the 144 statements to decide i was misold! Once the accont is cleadred & no longer used, Freemans no longer send statements.
My complaint is that i do not remember signing up for there PPI so why was it on there?
Thanx0 -
Around 84 statements then!
They dont have to offer alternatives. They will offer you 1 PPI policy from 1 provider and are not an insurance broker.
Did they provide any proof that you signed or ticked something for it? You may well have a point, but complaining 11 years after doesnt give your arguement much credibility as you didnt cancel it after you noticed it on your first statement.0 -
You seem to be trying to tell us that you are so stupid that you did not notice despite receiving around 84 statements indicating that you had a policy.
I agree with Roonaldo - there is an enormous credibility gap.
I doubt you can take the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service as the cover started before the General Insurance Council code was launched and I think Freemans unlikely to allow it to decide voluntarily.
You could try the courts but I think Freemans will be able to simply use the Limitation Act 1980 to time bar it.
Your best bet is to accept that you should check what you sign up for in future as well as statements and query anything you do not understand.0 -

Just because you don't remember, doesn't mean it didn't happen! You say it was in 1999 - can you remember every detail of a conversation you had in 1999 - definately not. We've spent decades teaching people about their rights, but nothing about their responsibilities.0
