Hi All, Have McAfee installed and the web subscription service has just expired (for virus scan - firewall still working). I have a purchased the 2006 McAfee security suite on disc re-new with (which works out alot cheaper than re-sub via the web.)
My question do i have to fully remove the existing mcafee firewall ect before installing the security suite from the disc? or will it configure itself if i just run the disc.
I'm being careful not to mess up my comp as i've had some serious headaches in the past!!!
thanks for any help in advance

I would uninstall your present program then install your new set up. Incidentally, I'd also make sure the new set up is updated then do a full system scan in safe mode.

Try to do it with out being on line,as you wont have firewall and anti virus running till its all installed.I pull out my modem cable.
I have just taken off McAfee, from a friends computer, and her computer is "flying" now.Its a bit of a hog McAfee,
I put on sygate firewall and Avast anti virus instead, both free.
I would run ccleaner as well to get rid of the rubbish the old McAfee leaves behind0 -
Huggins. when your computer is booting back up keep pressing F8 till you get a screen up then follow instructions.
Make sure you have updated McAfee first.
its good to do a scan in safe mode with system restore off,but leave your system restore alone for now,in case something has gone wrong with the installation of McAfee.
Just to add.You dont need the modem unplugged to do system restore in safe mode. Then after you have done a virus scan in safe mode with system restore off.make sure system restore is turned back on again. When you boot back up a notice should come on the system restore is off,you have the option to switch it back on,switch it back on then.0 -
OK I will give this ago thanks for your help people. regards huggins0

Ok - I have uninstalled the old McAfee and then loaded on the new McAfee - it's all running fine in 'normal' start up mode. However when i restart in safe mode it's not working - appears to be on the 'previous' settings - i.e stating that virus scan is not protecting the computer etc.
So what can i do to get it working in Safe mode so that i can run the system scan from there?
thanks again people0 -
anyone? ....please!0

You need to boot into safe mode using the account you installed it in. Then go to start, programs etc and find your program and start it from there. Safe mode only starts up the bare minimum to get your pc run up allowing, in this case, a virus program to sort out ant problems in normally running programs.

thx again Zahc - tried the above advice but no joy. However Have just run the full system scan in 'normal' mode and it didn't find any virus's. Will this be alright or am i best to try to run mcafee from safe mode to doubel check?0

I wouldnt stress over it,you seem to be ok.If you want to run a virus scan use asquared in safe mode, make sure its all updated. But you seem to be fine,so i wouldnt bother.0
