    Wow!

I didn't realise manufacturer's warranties were so useless.

Thanks for the info OP. ;)

I didn't realise some posters were so clueless regarding high street trading law and retailers legal obligations under the sale of goods act! Or indeed stop to think that in using the manufacturers warranty it may well negate any legal redress you may have with the retailer. ;)

I didn't buy the TV from Panasonic. I bought it from Comet!

I don't think any poster has stated that don't have legal rights to pursue Comet for a resolution to your problem. What they have stated is that you may well get a speedier and better solution by contacting Panasonic.

You don't have to do this but it certainly seems to be a case of "I know my rights and will get them enforced even if it causes me extra hardship and trouble"
If sounds like a case of cutting your nose off to spite your face.

I am currently in a battle with Comet to try and resolve an issue I have with a TV bought last month. I thought I would tell you guys what is happening and seek some advice.

But it seems that you only wanted advice that you agree with, so why bother asking in the first place?

Its a question of following the legal course of action to rectify the problem and that means dealing with the retailer. That is the recommended course of action on every single trading standards website I have visited. It is for this reason that I chose not to follow the advice of a few well meaning individuals on this forum who suggest ignoring the advice of proffessionals and contacting the manufacturer directly. There are good reasons not to do that which I have highlighted!

The opinions I sought here were regarding what is a reasonable period within which to evaluate and accept or reject the goods and if people think I have good grounds to insist upon a replacement set. Not whome I should contact which is well established in law.
