Pastry, salt, pepper and sausage meat for sausage rollsReal men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together.0

Home made cornish pasty, pastry, thinly sliced potato, onion, swede and beef. Adjust proportions according tobudget. Salt and pepper to taste. Bake gas mark 4, 30minutes or until golden brown.0

Here's a great (simple) recipe for cheese & onion pasties, I also add some chicken & onion and they're lovely

You need;
Packet of Just Roll puff pastry
Packet of hotdogs
or
8 Good quality butchers sausages, cooked & allowed to go cold
1 onion,sliced & fried to golden
Mustard
Egg for glaze
Spread out the pastry sheet & lay a sausage/hot dog & measure out a size treble the width & the same length plus 1cm to an inch each end.
Cut to size.
Spread a layer of mustard & then fried onions over the sheet.
Add the sausage/hotdog on top & fold, crimp the edges & ends, cut lits in the top & glaze with the egg.If you are going to freeze them, the skip the last step, for kiddies, you could cut the dogs into 2 inch portions & glaze n bake.0 -
Have you though of making your own puff pastry? I always imagined that it would be really difficult to do, but it isn't too bad.
You need to make it on a day when you can spend a bit of time going back and re-rolling and re-folding the pastry, but it can be made and stored in the fridge for a few days before cooking.
A good recipe is in the book Baking Made Easy by Lorraine Pascale, although I reduce the butter, by about 40 grams to make it cheaper. Much nicer than the shop bought stuff.0 -

Hi
I make these http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/main-ingredient/meat/sausages/sausage-rolls.html and these http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/type-of-dish/vegetarian-food/vegetarian-sausage-rolls.html and for pasties I use puff pastry sheets and I make a corned beef and mash filling with pickle - same as corned beef tart filling and I make cheese and mash filling with caremelised onion chutney

Hi Everyone
Thank you so much for all the replies, think I am going to be very busy trying out all the new recipes.
Never thought of using hotdogs think I might make these for son's Birthday party think the kids would love them.
So basically I can use whatever filling I want in the pastry.
I am hopeles at pastry, I end up with a great big mess which either falls to bits or is a lump of goo, but want to keep trying as the ready made stuff is expensive for using all the time.1 Sealed Pot Challenge # 1480
