Screwing into metal

Options
We have just purchased a new trampoline but are having a nightmare putting it together. The holes are pre-drilled but it is impossible to put the screws in. They just will not turn and we end up shearing the heads off the screws. Any suggestions? Thanks

Take it back. It seems that the screws may be wrong.

They are likely to be self tapping screws. Which can be difficult to start. If you really cannot drive them in, all I can suggest is to open the hole up slightly, before trying to drive the screws. Do not not open them up more than a small amount or the hole will be too large. I suggest that you try out the new hole size on a piece of scrap metal first. You could always try using a powered screwdriver and make sure that the bit is not worn out.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

If the screws are self tappers, however difficult they are to start, the heads will not shear off, unless something is wrong with the product.

True enough DV. Opening the hole would be a last resort, not something I'd normally do myself.
