My mum passed away recently and I am in the process of sorting out her affairs for probate. My brother recalls the fact that she had shares in Shell which he found out about after my dad died 10 years ago.
However, going through her stuff we can find nothing relating to these shares. I know she could have subsequently sold them, but if she didn't how do I go about finding out how many she has?
I would be grateful for any advice.

You would have to find out who the registrar she held the with or you could try contact Shell to see if they have any records if she held them independantly.0

Registrars are Equiniti, contact details on the Shell web-site
You could also try looking at your mother's bank statements to see if there is a record of any dividend payments being received. A bit more difficult if they were issued by cheque rather than BACS, but as possibility.

It is always different this time. The only thing that is the same is the outcome.
Portfolios are like personalities - one that is balanced is usually preferable.

I recall Shell went totally paperless in respect of the certificates - all now being held in some sort of bulk nominee service by Shell with holder being given account Nos - bit like a savings account.0
