Washing Blackberries

Blackberies (unlike raspberries) have a hard core when you pick them, which I don't like in jam, so I prefer to make jelly instead. Blackberries on their own won't set in a jelly, but apples contain pectin which will make it set well. The straining process to make jelly gets any bugs out as well!

The foot of an old pair of tights (washed!) makes an excellent jelly bag, so you don't need any special equipment apart from finding something to hang it from.
If we are supposed to be thin, why does chocolate exist?

But don't you squash the blackberries for blackberry jelly which means the bugs and their innards are squashed too  before straining

I usually leave the blackberries soaking in cold water for a bit before using - that drowns the bugs and they float off.
