Hi,
I expect to pay around £660 with https://www.AA.com for the flights, and around £500 for a 5 night stay at new york, new york, but how much do you think I'll need spend wise for 2 of us. We expect to go to "O" cirque de soliel, and poss 1 other show. Do you think £1000 would be enough??
How much in total have you guys spent on a vegas trip???

It depends on what sort of things you want to do.
My boyf and I went a couple of years ago, and we didn't exactly keep an eye on what we were spending in the casinos....it's very easy to get carried away...
all I can say is if you intend to be very cautious in the casinos then £1000 should be more than enough. If not you should agree a small daily budget and stick to it!
tip....if you follow the cocktail waitresses around the casinos inconspicously, you'll get free drinks (eventually)! (this is not an urban myth!)0 -
My partner and I were in Vegas about three weeks ago.
We were approached a lot of times and offered free meals and free or discount show tickets (for pretty much everything that was on at the time) to go see a presentation about a new hotel. When pressed the guy admitted that it was a timeshare thing, but stressed that there would be no hard sell. We didn't do it as we were only there for a couple of days and didn't want to waste the time, but if you have the time it may be a way to bring the cost down.
Also look out for the various discount coupon booklets that abound in Vegas.
The waitresses are only supposed to serve free drinks to active gamblers. You can easily pop yourself in front of a 1c machine, put the occasional dollar in and play slowly. They're happy for two people to be sat at the one machine too. Make sure to tip them at least a buck a drink though, it's pretty rude not to and they appreciate it.
For info, we stayed at Excalibur (over the road from NY NY) for £22 a night, booked on Expedia UK.
Have fun there.0 -
How long's a piece of string. We go about 5 times a year, and all depends on what you have in mind, the other half likes the shopping, cosmetics are about half the price, I find clothes and sunnies about the same, there are no real bargins, even in the outlet malls this is Vegas!! If you are going for broke, say 2 shows,(you won't get half price tix for the sort of shows you mentioned) dinner out 2 nights at Mon Ame Gabi (sp), Picasso, etc, abit of gambling, ($100 each a night should do it, I look at the gambling spends as part of the entertainment) add another £300 to it. Best advice I can give is open Nationwide flex account, leave some money in it,($2 charge from issuing bank, don't do it in a casino) then if you run short, you can withdrawal up to $500 per day, with no fees, and bank rate for exchange. Don't be so cheap as to sit at slots and blag free drinks, it's so uncool, they cost about the same as here anyway, play your games, and the drinks will come. (so you went to Vegas, and sat around penny slots and blaged a few free drinks, wow)
If you want to save abit on food and gambling, get a copy the American Casino Guide, get it when you are over there from Borders, cheaper than buying it here, we always buy 2. Loads of 241 coupons and match play. The one for Hard Rock casino alone gives you a profit on the book!! We spend no more than $15 a day between the 2 of us to eat, not that we are cheap, we just know the system, buffet in the morning ($5 with 241), then late lunch,($10 max with 241) before the buffets change over to the dinner menu. Get the buffets off strip, just as nice as the high end casinos IMHO (as long as you don't go to Arizona Charlies).
This last trip, we spent a grand total of about $700, that was over 5 days, and included golf, shoe shopping, eats, gambling, but for the newbie, you will spend more than that. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -

We went for 5 nights at xmas and ended up spending £1000 more or less.
We were'nt exactly watching our money either, All in all through some good days and some bad we came away from the rollette tables around £100 down over the week so not too bad there.
There is plenty to do in Vegas without spending a fortune.
As I have said on another thread If there is one show which is a must see it has to be Le Reve` at Wynn. Has to be the best show the wife and I have every seen and we've seen a few!
Enjoy your trip.
Pete.I'll get me coat!0
