We have recently moved house, we were with Talk Talk but because we are now outwith the free broadband area (or whatever it is) it was going to cost us an extra £15 a month making our monthly bill over £40. My husband has just phoned back to cancel but they have now informed us there will be £180 cancellation fee! We have been with them for nearly 3 years. Is this right enough? We can't afford £180 cancellation fee, it's a nonsense!

Presumably because you commenced a new 12 or 18m minimum term TT contract when you accepted the house move?
Wouldn't it have been better to check what the rate would be on your new exchange before accepting the move from TT?
Presumably you are now on an exchange which is non -LLU for TT, hence the much higher price? No free lunch, and no free laptop

No we didn't commence a new contract when we moved house, when we phoned up to check how much it was going to be and they told us we told them we want to cancel the existing contract. Seemingly it's a disconnection fee and they have told my husband that if we get the new tenants to sign up with them they will waive the charge!"That's no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. There is no such thing as a 'disconnection fee' (except for a £25 broadband cease charge), the only charge is for early termination of either your phone or broadband contract, or both.
A TT home move requires that you start a new contract, see the T&C's below, which also mention the out of LLU area £15 surcharge:
If you're moving home, please contact Customer Services as soon as you have a confirmed moving date so that we can switch your broadband and landline over to your new home. You will need to sign a new contract for line rental at the new property.
If your new home doesn't qualify for inclusive broadband, you'll need to move on to our £15 per month, 8Meg broadband service. No free lunch, and no free laptop
