I'm looking in the sales for a replacement for my Samsung Combination (grill/fan oven/micro) Microwave which has performed superb service but is now nearing the end of it's useful life.
Has anyone seen a large combination microwave that might suit, please?

I have used Sharp combination ovens since 1993. The first one lasted about 9 years before the turntable failed. It became erratic and would sometimes not turn properly although all other functions worked OK. 9 years is not too bad for an oven that was quite heavily used. I replaced it with a Sharp R 953 which is I think an earlier version of the Sharp R959SLM in FleetFanatic’s post above
I would highly recommend it. It has proved to be reliable so far.
Unless things have changed since I bought it a few years ago, it is the largest capacity combination oven available.0 -
I think it is an earlier version.
The main difference is the digital display looks different on the older model.
Apart from that they are nigh-on the same.....Fog on The Tyne isn't mine all mine... but if I wanted it, I'd want it with a discount code.0 -
Just on here to post about microwaves so maybe you could help please, my microwave is dying and needs replaced and ive been looking at the combi ones against just the microwave and having had a grill microwave (10 years ago)and found the grill useless is it worth the extra monies and has the grilling side improved? I also notice the convection being mentioned, again is it worth it as i have built in fan !!! oven with grill. The microwave i have at the moment just heats but does what i want im just unsure whether to justify the extra money if i wont use the functions. Any thoughts or advice please? The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

Should you get a combination oven? It all comes down to how much money you have or want to spend, how much cooking you do, for how many people and what type of cooking you do.
I recommend a combination oven for most people. The extra cost over a microwave only, spread over say 10 years, is really negligible. A few pence per day gives you significantly more cooking options and flexibility.
We are a two adults only household. We have a standard double oven plus a combination microwave. We probably use the combi for 90% of our cooking as it is big enough for most meals for two.
We do a lot of home cooking plus a fair amount of heating/cooking ready meals. The combi is brilliant for ready meals as you can use a combination of microwave and convection heat to cook ready meals to perfection. It is also very useful for finishing off food if some items are ready but some need a bit of a boost.
The combi heats up faster than the standard oven and probably uses less energy overall as it is heating a far smaller space.
The grill on my Sharp combi is not perfect but it works ok. The main drawback is that the food tends to be far too close to the grill on the top rack and too far away on the lower rack. For most true grilling, I use the grill in the double oven but for finishing off a meal that I have cooked in the combi, I do use the grill in there. I am just careful to check it every few minutes as it can burn easily.
Overall I love the flexibility that the combi gives me.0 -
Thank you, we are a family of 5 with the 12 year wanting to cook everything as shes getting home economics in school and thinks shes delia would it be safe enough for her to use. The next problem i have is im space restricted and the height no more than 30cm will that rule one of these out? The one ive been looking at is this one but no height mentioned and not too expensive. The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

I doubt if a combi is any more dangerous for a 12 year old than a microwave oven or a normal oven. Just make sure she knows and follows basic safety precautions such as:
Don’t use the microwave function when the oven is empty as this can damage it. Wear oven gloves when handling hot food or dishes. Microwaved food can be very hot inside even if the outside is cool. This especially applies to food in pastry such as apple pie. The high water content of the apple absorbs more of the microwave energy than the dryer pastry. An oven with a drop down door hinged at the bottom is a bit safer than a combi with a side hinged door.
30cm height is far too small for a decent sized combi. My Sharp fits in a 38cm space. Can you free stand yours on a work surface?
Here is a recent Which survey.

I would need to shuffle my worktop space and unsure as whether it would fit, as i had a cd player which sits ontop of the microwave (need music in the kitchen) and plug wise i would need to put toaster under a upper unit which i dont think the kids would always remember to pull out when making toast hence space limit, looks like just normal microwave for me.
Just double checked and a shuffle could work, it would make me clear some stuff of worksurface.
Glad i came on here to ask, i could have went out and bought one, thank you.The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0
