depends if you have space for a big rear projection or not - they are huge.
Also brightness is not great on them, however picture quality can be pretty impressive...

  • rear projection are poor in bright light, infact they're not great in anything but darkness although better than they used to be. I'd personally spend the extra few £'s and get a plasma.

FWIW go into Currys and spend some time and compare them - worth taking a favourite DVD(?). My choice for standard definition TV (ie not SKY HD - you would know if you were paying for this!) is the Panasonic 42" (TH42PX60B)from Currys (product code 308211) now priced at £899 (although codes are available to reduce this further). However get John Lewis to 'price match' (undersales dept) and get JL's 5 year guarantee. This TV was about 2k a year ago, and about 1200 before Christmas at £899 its a great deal.

    Absolutely no contest.

Plasma wins every time in my opinion. They are more compact, give a better picture in most viewing conditions, have a wider viewing angle etc.

I have never seen a rear projection that I liked.

Please don’t flame me if you are a RP fan. I am simply expressing my personal opinion.

If you're tempted by RP then have a look at the Sim2 model. I not 100% sure they still make it but if they do you'll need to go to a dedicated av dealer rather than an electrical store to find one. You probably won't find a better RP tv than that.
