I've tried damp kitchen roll or newspaper with ash & kitchen roll has the edge for me. For real stubborn stuff I've got a metal razor scraper which works a treat especially in the hard to get edges

My installer said to use white vinegar on a soft rag, dipped in ash. Works a treat.

My husband uses oven cleaner on ours, works every time, he justs rubs it on and wipes off shortly afterwards....oven mate I think.
  • We burn our multi fuel every evening to run the heating. The system cools from about 3am until 5pm when we fire back up. DP uses three pieces of kitchen roll, 1 wet, 1 damp and 1 dry, in that order to wipe the glass. Done daily, it keeps the glass clear, but not perfect. (It's a personal thing, but I just think that stoves look better with a little bit of patina!)
Stove cleaner gets used monthly if needed, but difficult spots rarely stay put after a couple of days burning, and a scraper is used only occasionally. We used to spend a fortune on cleaners when we first got this stove, but this method works fine, less than 3p a day!

Be very careful using ash to clean glass if you burn smokeless fuels. I think I think I have scratched the glass on ours doing this. I read afterwards that you should only use ash if you burn wood!
